Dubai has secured a place among the world’s top five cities for financial technology (fintech) according to the latest Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI). This recognition confirms Dubai’s growing influence as a major international financial hub.
Dubai's Rising Status in Global Finance
The GFCI, published by London-based commercial think-tank and consultancy Z/Yen, evaluates 119 financial centers worldwide based on expert assessments and industry data. Dubai’s strong performance in this index shows its effective strategy to develop as a leading financial center.
For the first time, Dubai has joined an elite group of only eight cities globally recognized as financial centers with broad and deep capabilities across all finance sectors. This places Dubai alongside established financial leaders such as London, New York, and Paris.
Impressive Rankings Across Multiple Categories
Dubai’s overall position in the index has climbed to 12th place, making it the most prominent financial city in the region. Dubai shows strong performance across multiple key categories:
Dubai ranks 9th globally for infrastructure, 10th for business environment, 11th for reputation (including regulations and innovation), and 12th for human capital. This balanced performance across key factors shows Dubai’s well-rounded approach to developing its financial sector.
Sector-Specific Excellence
When examining individual financial sectors, Dubai demonstrates particular strength in several areas. The city ranks 5th globally for fintech, showcasing its successful efforts to foster innovation and digital transformation in financial services.
Dubai also performs exceptionally well in professional services (6th place) and investment management (8th place), while maintaining strong positions in trading (13th place) and banking and finance (14th place).
What This Means for Businesses
These rankings are based on feedback from nearly 5,000 financial professionals and over 31,000 assessments collected through the GFCI survey. For companies considering expanding to Dubai, these results provide concrete evidence of the city’s growing status as a global financial hub.
Dubai’s rise in financial rankings creates significant opportunities for businesses looking to establish operations in the region. Companies in the fintech sector especially stand to benefit from Dubai’s supportive regulatory environment, advanced infrastructure, and access to regional markets.
For financial services firms, investment management companies, and professional service providers, Dubai offers an increasingly attractive base for regional headquarters or expansion. The city combines business-friendly policies with strategic location advantages and a growing talent pool, making it a practical choice for international companies looking to access Middle Eastern, African, and South Asian markets.
