Dubai is an attractive destination for entrepreneurs and their families. Our Managing Partner Uwe Hohmann, alongside Prof. Dr. Christoph Juhn, highlights the seven key considerations for a successful emigration to Dubai.
Moving from Germany to Dubai has become significantly easier in recent years. Uwe Hohmann, who has been in Dubai for 27 years, talked about all the advantages. This article covers essential topics for German entrepreneurs considering a move to Dubai, including visa requirements, company formation, real estate, driver’s license conversion, family visas, and the amenities available in Dubai. 1. How Long Can a German Entrepreneur Stay in Dubai Without a Visa?
German entrepreneurs can stay in Dubai without a visa for up to 90 days. This initial period is enough time to explore the city, meet with consultants, and start the process of establishing a business.
2. How Does Company Formation Work, and What Are the Benefits?
Forming a company in Dubai is straightforward and offers numerous benefits. Entrepreneurs can establish their businesses with the help of local experts within 10 to 14 days. The most common business structure is the LLC (Limited Liability Company), similar to a GmbH in Germany. Entrepreneurs are advised to grant power of attorney to local experts, enabling them to handle the entire setup process efficiently.
3. Obtaining a Long-Term Visa
After establishing a company, entrepreneurs need to obtain a long-term visa to stay beyond 90 days. There are three main types of visas:
Employment Visa: Suitable for employees of a company, including company owners who have a managerial role.
Partner Visa: Issued to company partners, valid for two years.
Golden Visa: This visa is ideal for real estate investors. It is valid for ten years and does not require frequent renewal.
4. Renting or Buying Property in Dubai
An Emirates ID is essential to rent or buy property in Dubai. The process of acquiring an Emirates ID is streamlined, making it easier to secure short or long-term accommodation. Entrepreneurs are advised to initially rent a property to familiarize themselves with different areas of the city. Once settled, they can consider purchasing real estate.
5. Converting a German Driver’s License
German entrepreneurs can use their German driver’s license for up to 90 days. After obtaining a residence visa, they must convert their license to a UAE driver’s license. This process is simple and takes about 20 minutes at the local authorities.
6. Visas for Family Members
Dubai has become more liberal regarding family visas. Unmarried couples can live together, and the process of securing visas for spouses and children is straightforward. Family members can also benefit from the services provided by local experts, ensuring a smooth transition.
7. Enjoying the Amenities in Dubai
Dubai offers numerous amenities for expatriates. It is common to have household help, such as nannies and maids, who can assist with daily chores and childcare. Additionally, many residents employ chauffeurs, allowing them to focus on their work while commuting.
