Dubai is taking a step towards enhancing work-life balance with a new pilot scheme for government employees. The initiative, named ‘Our Flexible Summer’, introduces a four-day work week and reduced hours during the summer months.
Key Points of the Trial
-Duration: 12.08 – 30.09
-Participating Organizations: 15 Dubai government entities
-Working Hours: Reduced to 7 hours per day (from 9 hours)
-Work Week: Four days, with Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays off
Aims of the Initiative
The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has outlined several objectives for this trial:
- Enhance employee wellbeing
- Improve work-life balance
- Promote sustainable use of government resources
- Position Dubai as an ideal city for a superior lifestyle
Managing Potential Disruptions in Government Services
While the four-day workweek trial is a positive step toward work-life balance, it may present challenges in managing paperwork or obtaining government-related documents.
