UAE and Austria Strengthen Trade Ties

The UAE and Austria held their second joint business roundtable, bringing together senior government officials and private sector representatives from both countries. The focus was straightforward: accelerate trade, deepen investment flows, and create real opportunities for businesses on both sides.
For companies in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) already operating in the UAE or considering a move there, this matters.
A Trade Relationship That Is Picking Up Speed
Non-oil trade between the UAE and Austria grew 15.8 percent year-on-year to approximately USD 2.1 billion in 2025. Both governments have been actively pushing to move beyond traditional trade patterns and into sectors that create lasting value.
The main trade drivers are technology, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability. DACH companies have traditionally been strong in all four. If your business operates in any of these fields, the UAE-Austria corridor deserves a closer look.
Austria is already considered the UAE’s most important business partner in the entire GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region. That position is backed by real trade volume and active engagement at both the government and corporate level.
The CEPA Negotiations and What They Could Unlock
One of the key topics at the roundtable was the status of CEPA (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) negotiations between the European Union and the UAE. An agreement with the EU would be one of the most commercially significant to date.
For DACH businesses, a finalised EU-UAE CEPA could mean reduced tariffs, simplified customs procedures, and a more predictable regulatory framework for cross-border operations. At a time when trade barriers are going up in many parts of the world, this kind of agreement would move in the opposite direction.
If your company exports goods to the Gulf or is considering setting up operations in the UAE, the progress of these negotiations is worth following closely.
From Roundtable to Real Business
Beyond the high-level discussions, the event included bilateral sessions pairing Emirati and Austrian companies to explore concrete collaboration. The sectors on the table were advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, tourism, and technology.
The UAE side emphasised that the opportunity extends well beyond selling into the Gulf market. The UAE wants European companies to use it as a platform for expansion into the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. As the infrastructure, regulatory environment, and connectivity continue to improve, that proposition keeps getting stronger.
For DACH entrepreneurs and business owners, this distinction matters. The UAE functions as a commercial center, and the government is actively building the frameworks to make it more accessible to European companies.
