The United Arab Emirates has announced its latest initiative in the long-term residency visa category: the Blue Visa. This new 10-year residency program targets environmental leaders and sustainability experts. It was announced at the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai.
What is the UAE Blue Visa?
The Blue Visa is a specialized long-term residency visa designed to attract and retain individuals who have made contributions to environmental protection and sustainability. This new category joins the existing Golden Visa program, expanding the UAE’s commitment to attracting global talent across various sectors.
Who Can Apply for the Blue Visa?
The program targets several categories of environmental professionals and leaders:
- Members of international environmental organizations
- Executives from international companies focused on sustainability
- Representatives from environmental associations
- Global environmental award winners
- Distinguished environmental researchers and activists
- Sustainability thought leaders and Innovators
First Phase Implementation
In its initial phase, the program will welcome 20 sustainability thought leaders and innovators carefully selected for their exceptional contributions to environmental causes. This measured approach allows the UAE to fine-tune the program while ensuring its effectiveness in attracting top talent in the sustainability sector.
Why This Matters for UAE Businesses
The introduction of the Blue Visa aligns with global sustainability trends and the UAE’s commitment to environmental protection.
This creates several advantages for companies operating in the region. Businesses will gain enhanced access to environmental expertise, enabling them to develop and implement more sustainable practices. This access opens new opportunities for sustainable business development and innovation in the green economy.
Moreover, companies can strengthen their competitive position by integrating top environmental talent into their operations while simultaneously preparing for future environmental regulations.
Application Process and Requirements
Eligible candidates can pursue two paths to obtain the Blue Visa:
-
Direct application through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP)
-
Nomination by competent UAE Authority – The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment
