UAE Pass Fraud and How to Protect Your Business

The UAE Pass is used for most official transactions in the country, from logging in to telecom operator apps to approving bank transactions. That same access makes it a target for fraud. Business owners in the UAE should understand how attackers target these accounts and how to secure them.
What an Attacker Gains from Your UAE Pass
The UAE Pass is a single verified identity that gives access to government portals, banking services, company records, and legally binding electronic signatures. Anyone who controls the account can act in your name across all of them.
For companies the exposure is wider. Owners, managers, and authorised signatories use the UAE Pass to approve transactions, file compliance submissions, and update corporate details. Someone with that access could enter into contracts, change registered information, or move funds before the breach is noticed. Reversing a fraudulent filing or a signed document takes time, legal support, and management attention.
Three Methods Criminals Use
Most attempts rely on urgency and on the expectation that the recipient will act without checking.
Phishing is the most common method. An email or an SMS arrives that looks like an official notice, usually warning that your account requires verification, that your Emirates ID is about to expire, or that a service will be suspended unless you act today. The link leads to a copy of a government page built to capture whatever you type into it.
Impersonation calls are the second method. The caller presents themselves as a government officer, a bank employee, or a service provider handling your file, then asks for credentials, Emirates ID details, or an OTP (One-Time Password). No legitimate authority in the UAE asks for these over the phone. A request for an OTP is sufficient reason to end the call.
Counterfeit applications appear periodically on unofficial download platforms. They imitate the genuine interface closely, and users enter their details before they notice the difference.
Rules That Keep Your UAE Pass Secure
Credentials should never be shared with anyone. This covers passwords, biometric access, and any OTP sent to your registered number. No bank, government department, or consultant has a legitimate reason to ask you for that code.
Download the application only from the Apple App Store or Google Play, and confirm the publisher is listed as the UAE Government before installing. Enable every security feature the application offers, including biometric authentication. Review your activity log at regular intervals and report anything you did not initiate through official channels.
Any request that demands immediate action should be verified first. Official government notifications do not require you to click a link within the hour.
Controls Every Company Should Have in Place
Companies should set written rules for UAE Pass use. Record who holds signing authority and for which matters, and make sure those individuals understand what their access allows.
Unusual requests should be verified through a separate channel. If a partner, a client, or someone claiming to represent an authority asks for urgent approval, confirm it on a number you already hold before you approve anything. Audit your records on government portals at regular intervals so that changes to trade licence details, ownership structures, or authorised signatories are identified early. Limiting the number of people with UAE Pass authority over company matters also limits the exposure.
The First Hours After a Suspected Breach
Act quickly, before you are certain. Change the password through the official application or website, then contact the UAE Pass support centre to report the incident and request a review of recent activity.
Where company accounts are involved, inform your PRO (Public Relations Officer) or compliance contact and check recent filings and transactions for anything you did not authorise. Report suspected fraud to the police and to the relevant government department. Keep a written record of the suspicious messages, the unauthorised activity, and every step you take, with dates. That record will support your position if the matter requires an investigation or the reversal of a filing.
Where to Check for New Threats
Fraud methods change regularly. The official UAE Pass channels and the TDRA (Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority) publish alerts on new threats and current security recommendations, and checking them occasionally takes very little time.

One digital signature can commit a company to a contract or change its registered details. Protecting the UAE Pass requires the same controls a company applies to its bank mandates and signing authorities.
Clear internal rules on who holds access, verification of unusual requests, and periodic checks of company records on government portals will prevent most attempts.
